Perfume in Qatar: a small category with its own style
Perfume and incense take 7% of all the Arabic ads that targeted Qatar in the study, behind fashion (14%), watches (12%) and electronics (11%). Qatar holds 13% of the Gulf's perfume ads, after Saudi Arabia (31%), the UAE (27%), Kuwait and Oman. A small market by count, but with a character of its own.
The market is spread out: 324 pages for 1,596 ads, a handful of ads per advertiser on average, and no page owns the category. And the Qatari perfume ad travels: 14% of it also runs in Kuwait, 14% in the UAE, 14% in Bahrain and 13% in Saudi Arabia. Many of the perfume stores you see in Doha are Gulf stores selling to the whole region. For the perfume category across the Gulf read Perfume ads; for every category in Qatar, Trending in Qatar.

How perfume stores in Qatar sell: the discount before the video
The clearest trait of the category: a discount or an offer in 53% of the ads, well above the Qatari average (34%) and Gulf perfume (49%). "The second piece", "a set at one price" and "the offer of the week" are the usual forms. Urgency ("limited time") is lower than in Gulf perfume: 15% against 25%, and a gift appears in 11% (Gulf 18%).
Cash on delivery is mentioned in only 10%, below the Qatari average (17%); free delivery in 9%, instalments in 3%. Perfume here is a product paid for online, from the store.
The surprise is the format: video on 63% of perfume ads in Qatar, against 70% of Qatari ads overall and 73% of Gulf perfume ads, and a still image on 25%. A luxurious bottle on a clean background with the offer price does the job for many advertisers. How we read these signals in every category: Ad offers in numbers.
Where the ads lead: Shopify and Salla before WhatsApp
Among the platforms we recognise, Shopify comes first: 17% of perfume ads in Qatar, then Salla 13%, then WhatsApp without a store 11%, and WooCommerce 3%. Compare the Qatari market as a whole: WhatsApp first (24%), Shopify 12%, and Salla only 3%.
Salla's share is the striking one: Salla is a Saudi platform, and of the 1,920 perfume ads leading to Salla in the whole Gulf, 211 run in Qatar. Many Saudi perfume stores add Qatar to their targeting and ship there. Your competitor in Doha is not only the store next door but a store in Riyadh too. The buttons confirm it: "Shop now" on 47%, "Order now" on 13%, "WhatsApp message" on only 10% against 22% of Qatari ads overall, and "Learn more" on 10%, the button of a brand that introduces itself before it sells, here at three times the Qatari average (3%).
Prices in Qatari riyals
Of 353 ads that stated a price in Qatari riyals: the lower quartile up to QAR 50, the median 211, the upper quartile from QAR 450. Across the Qatari market: 100, 211 and 499. The median is the market's own median, but the lower quartile is far lower: samples, musks and incense at small prices, with sets and oud oil at the top.
The median copy runs 82 words, longer than Qatari ads overall (66): the advertiser describes projection, longevity and notes.
The perfume ads that lasted in Qatar
The number of ads tells you who is testing; running time tells you who is selling. Open the GccFY library with the Qatar filter, active ads and the word «عطر», sorted by longest running, then note three things for every ad that lasted: what is sold (a bottle, a set, oud oil, incense), the offer (a discount, a second piece, a gift) and the format (a photo or a video, and who appears in it). Try other words in the same sort («بخور» incense, «دهن عود» oud oil, «مسك» musk), and open the store page behind each ad to see the real price, the payment method and the platform. How to read running time.
An honest note on the numbers: the "perfume" group is built from words in the ad text, so it includes ads that do not sell perfume: 26% of the group's ads also carry hair care words (hair perfume, scented oils), 25% carry watch and accessory words (gift sets), and a "Play game" button sits on 5% of the ads, a button of apps, not stores. Read the shares as a direction, not an exact figure; the live screen is the judge.
Practical steps and copy templates for a perfume store in Doha
- Open the library with «عطر» and the Qatar filter, sorted by longest running, then add the Salla platform filter to see the Saudi stores selling in Qatar, and the Shopify filter for the local and Gulf ones.
- Write the offer in the first line: the market expects it, and more than half of your competitors state one.
- Price your hero product as a set around the median, and put samples and small musks under the lower quartile to win the first order.
- Test a luxurious still image next to the video: in Qatar many of the perfume ads that last are photos.
- Plan the seasons: White Friday on 27 November 2026 (start mid-November), Qatar National Day on 18 December (start early December), Ramadan around 8 February 2027 and Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March 2027. The full calendar is in Gulf ad seasons.
