Perfume in Oman: a more local market than its neighbours
Perfume and incense take 9% of all the Arabic ads that targeted Oman in the study, behind hair care (16%), watches, health, electronics, fashion and skincare. Oman holds 16% of the Gulf's perfume ads, fourth after Saudi Arabia (31%), the UAE (27%) and Kuwait (18%), ahead of Qatar and Bahrain.
The market is spread out: 342 pages for 1,950 ads, a handful of ads per advertiser, and no page owns the category. The striking thing is that the Omani perfume ad stays in Oman: only 10% of it also runs in Qatar, 9% in Saudi Arabia and 9% in the UAE. Perfume advertisers here are local sellers serving the Sultanate, not Gulf stores adding Oman to their targeting. For the perfume category across the Gulf read Perfume ads; for every category in Oman, Trending in Oman.

How perfume stores in Oman sell: the discount, the gift and cash on delivery
- A discount or an offer in 60%: six ads out of ten, above the Omani average (46%), itself the highest in the Gulf, and above Gulf perfume (49%).
- A gift in 22%, against 14% in Oman overall and 18% in Gulf perfume: perfume with incense, or buy two and get the third free.
- Urgency ("limited time", "limited stock") in 27%.
- Cash on delivery in 24%, close to the Omani average (27%) but clearly above Gulf perfume (15%): the Omani buyer wants to smell before paying.
- Free delivery in 14%, and instalments almost absent (1%): the price is small.
And 79% of the ads are video, above Gulf perfume (73%): the spray, the box and the incense smoke are shown. The median copy runs 115 words, against 80 in Oman overall and 70 in Gulf perfume: the ad describes the notes and the longevity and answers the questions before giving the price. How we read these signals: Ad offers in numbers.
Where the ads lead: WhatsApp then Shopify, and the "Shop now" button
Among the platforms we recognise, WhatsApp without a store comes first: 18% of perfume ads in Oman, then Shopify 8%, WooCommerce 5% (above its share in Oman overall, 2%), Salla 3% and LightFunnels 3%. Across the Omani market WhatsApp is stronger (28%) and Shopify is 7%: perfume leans towards the store more than the other Omani categories.
The buttons confirm it: "Shop now" on 57% (Oman overall 45%), "WhatsApp message" on only 16% against 26% in Oman overall, "Learn more" on 8% (the button of a brand introducing itself), and "Order now" on 7%. If you sell perfume through a chat only, the market is moving towards the product page.
Prices in Omani rials
Of 223 ads that stated a price in Omani rials (a small sample): the lower quartile up to OMR 10, the median 15, the upper quartile from OMR 20. Across the Omani market: 14, 20 and 40. A narrow band below the market median: one bottle or a box of incense, and a small set at the top. The stated price is usually the offer price after the discount.
For comparison with the category across the Gulf in Saudi riyals: the median is SAR 189. For the Omani market in every category, including hair care, which leads it: Oman hair care ads.
The perfume ads that lasted in Oman
The number of ads tells you who is testing; running time tells you who is selling. Open the GccFY library with the Oman filter, active ads and the word «عطر», sorted by longest running, then note for every ad that lasted: what is sold (a bottle, a set, incense, oud oil, frankincense), the offer (a discount, a gift, buy two get one free) and who appears in the video. Try other words in the same sort («بخور» incense, «دهن عود» oud oil, «لبان» frankincense), and open the store page or the WhatsApp link behind each ad to see the real price and the payment method. How to read running time.
An honest note on the numbers: the "perfume" group is built from words in the ad text, so it includes ads that do not sell perfume: 26% of the group's ads also carry hair care words (scented oils, hair perfume), 24% carry fashion words, and 20% carry watch and accessory words (gift sets). Read the shares as a direction, not an exact figure; the live screen is the judge.
Practical steps and copy templates for a perfume store in Muscat and Salalah
- Open the library with «عطر» or «بخور» and the Oman filter, sorted by longest running, and add the active-ads filter to see what is working this week.
- Put the offer and the gift in the first line: this market expects them more than any other Gulf market.
- State cash on delivery and delivery to every governorate plainly: they are the buyer's first questions.
- Write longer copy than usual, but structured: the notes, the longevity, the occasion, then the price.
- Plan the seasons: Oman National Day on 20 and 21 November (start mid-November), White Friday on 27 November 2026, Ramadan around 8 February 2027 and Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March 2027. The full calendar is in Gulf ad seasons.
