Instalments (Tabby and Tamara) in Gulf ads: where they appear, when they help, and how to write them

"Pay in instalments" buttons are everywhere on checkout pages, but how many ads actually mention instalments in their text? In the newest 160,000 Arabic ads of the library (2026-10-25 to 2026-11-06) we counted every ad mentioning Tabby, Tamara or instalments: 5,277 ads, or 3%. A small number, but it concentrates in particular countries, categories and platforms, and there it becomes a promise that sets you apart. Here is what the numbers say, and when to write instalments into your ad.

Key takeaways

  • Instalments appear in only 3% of Gulf ads, against cash on delivery in 17% and a discount in 38%.
  • Saudi and Emirati first: 5% of Saudi ads and 4% of UAE ads, against 1% in Kuwait and 1% in Oman.
  • Abayas lead by a margin (9%), then electronics (4%), skincare, home and food; the lowest are makeup, fashion and health.
  • By platform: Salla 6%, selling over WhatsApp 6%, Shopify 4%; the cash-on-delivery platforms (YouCan, LightFunnels) hardly mention it.

Instalments are a rare promise in the Gulf

Of 160,000 ads, 5,277 mention Tabby, Tamara or the word instalments: 3%. Compare cash on delivery (17%), free delivery (14%) and discounts (38%). Instalments are the last of the big promises by mentions, alongside the gift (10%). That does not mean stores do not offer them; it means most leave them to the checkout page and never write them into the ad. That is the opportunity: a promise many offer and few write. Every promise in numbers: Ad offers in numbers.

Instalments by country

Kuwait28,2833781%14%
Bahrain16,3672041%20%
Oman22,0953161%27%

The picture is clear: instalments are a Saudi (5%) and Emirati (4%) promise first, then Qatar (2%), and nearly absent in Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. The last two columns move in opposite directions: where instalments rise, cash on delivery falls (Saudi Arabia 12%), and where cash on delivery rises (Oman 27%) instalments vanish. They are two promises for two different buyers: one trusts online payment and wants the amount softened, the other wants to see the goods before paying.

Abayas are in a league of their own: 9% of their ads mention instalments, far above any other category, their median written price is the highest of all categories (SAR 250), more than half of their ads run in Saudi Arabia (54%), and Salla is their first platform (37%). A relatively high price, a Saudi buyer and a store with an online checkout: the three conditions for instalments together. Electronics come second because their price justifies instalments, but cash on delivery competes hard there (39%). At the bottom, fashion (1%) and makeup (<1%): cheap goods (medians of SAR 69 and 149) whose buyer needs no instalments. Prices for every category: Pricing in the Gulf.

YouCan1,7220 ads26%

The platform tells the payment method. Salla and Zid (two Saudi platforms) and Shopify stores sell with online payment, so they mention instalments more and cash on delivery less. YouCan, LightFunnels and EasyOrders, the platforms of single-product pages and cash on delivery, flip the picture: LightFunnels 24% cash on delivery and 1% instalments, YouCan 26% against 0 instalment ads in the whole study. The surprise is the sellers over WhatsApp without a store: 6% mention instalments, as much as Salla; these are the expensive goods (perfumes, watches, devices) sold by conversation, where instalments are offered as bait for a reply. What sells on Salla specifically: Salla store ads that work.

When does the instalments promise help an ad?

We say nothing about Tabby's or Tamara's fees or approval rules; that is between you and them. We say when the promise deserves a line in your ad, based on what the market does:

  • It helps when your price is above your category's median and you sell in Saudi Arabia, the UAE or Qatar: there a buyer who knows it reads it, and it softens a big number in the first line. Abayas at SAR 320, devices above 450, furniture above 500.
  • It helps when your store is on Salla, Zid or Shopify with an online checkout where the option actually shows: never promise what the buyer will not see at payment.
  • It rarely helps in Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman: the market there asks about cash on delivery (27% in Oman, 20% in Bahrain), so write that instead.
  • It does not help for cheap goods: below the fashion median (SAR 69) or the makeup median (149) instalments look odd and take a line better spent on a discount or free delivery.
  • Do not put both promises in one line: "pay in instalments or cash on delivery" scatters. Pick the promise of your country and category, and leave the other to the store page.

UAE fashion is an example of a low-priced category in a market that accepts instalments: UAE fashion ads.

Templates that mention instalments (our wording)

Write what your checkout actually offers: the number of payments and whether there are fees come from your store settings, not from this article.

(The product at a price, or split into a number of payments through Tabby or Tamara at checkout; delivery time to every city.)
(An abaya of a given fabric at a price, instalments available at checkout; all sizes; free exchange.)
(An original device with a guarantee, at a price, instalments available in the store; order today and receive it within a stated time.)
(Refresh a room with a piece in a given material, price including assembly, instalments from the store; see the colours on the page.)
(A gift worthy of the occasion in premium packaging, at a price or in payments through Tabby or Tamara; order before a date.)

And start from the competitor ads that mention instalments: in GccFY search "تابي", "تمارا" or "قسّط" with the country and platform filters, sort by longest running, and open the store page behind the ad to see how the option appears at checkout.
