Fashion in Saudi Arabia: the biggest category, and two different markets
Fashion is the biggest ad category in Saudi Arabia in our study: 5,926 ads, ahead of hair care (5,180) and electronics (4,938). Across the Gulf, Saudi Arabia is the biggest fashion market (5,926 ads) with the UAE close behind (5,393).
But the big number hides two markets:
- The loud-offer market: a low price, video, a big discount, a "limited stock" countdown, and cash on delivery. Few pages run many ads, and most lead to sites that belong to no store platform we know.
- The local store market: dresses, occasion wear and everyday clothes on Salla, Zid and Shopify, at higher prices, with an exchange policy and fast domestic delivery.
If you are in the second, do not play the first one's game. For abayas, the category that runs on the opposite rules, read Abaya stores in Saudi Arabia.
Discounts, urgency and cash on delivery
The highest discount, urgency and cash-on-delivery shares of all six categories in this series are here:
- A discount or an offer in 50%: more than half of the ads.
- Urgency ("limited time", "last pieces") in 35%, more than twice the Saudi average.
- Cash on delivery in 25%, free delivery in 18%, and a gift in 16%.
- Instalments in only 2%, the lowest share of all the study's categories in Saudi Arabia: a dress's price needs no instalment plan.
80% of the ads are video (Saudi average 63%), and the copy is long: a median of 103 words against 45 for Saudi ads, because sizes, colours and offer terms all get written out. Writing shorter, stronger copy: Arabic ad copy.
Where clothing ads lead
Salla is the first platform we recognise (13%), then Shopify (7%), WhatsApp without a store (7%) and Zid (3%). But the eight platforms we recognise together do not reach a third of fashion ads in Saudi Arabia: most ads lead to standalone sites, the usual habit of the loud-offer market.
WhatsApp is weak here compared with Saudi Arabia overall (24%): a dress is chosen on a page with sizes and colours, not in a chat.
"Shop now" on 69% of the ads, against 36% in Saudi Arabia overall, "Order now" on 12%, and "WhatsApp message" on only 6%.
Prices, and how concentrated the market is
Of 447 Saudi fashion ads that stated a price in riyals: the lower quartile up to SAR 50, the median 99, the upper quartile from SAR 210. The fashion median is about half the median of all Saudi ads (SAR 199): the advertised price in fashion is an impulse price, and most ads state no price at all.
The market is more concentrated than the other categories in this series: 5,926 ads from only 902 pages, against 3,897 home ads from 1,179 pages. A fashion advertiser runs far more ads each: the style of someone testing dozens of pieces and videos at once. Do not measure yourself by how many ads they run, but by which ones stay.
The dress ads that have run for weeks

In a category where an advertiser tests dozens of ads, running time is what sorts out the winner. Open the first ads in this sort and note: the type of dress (evening, everyday, modest, kids), whether the video has a model or the piece on a hanger, the price on the store page, and whether it takes cash on delivery. How to read running time.
Practical steps and copy templates for a clothing store
- Search "فستان" or the name of the piece with the Saudi filter, sorted by longest running, and open the store page behind each ad.
- If you are a local store, sell what the loud-offer market does not have: an accurate size chart, easy exchanges, and delivery within days inside Saudi Arabia.
- Film the dress on a model in motion, and add a close-up of the fabric.
- Get ready for the clothing seasons: Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March 2027 (start mid-Ramadan), Eid al-Adha around 17 May 2027, and White Friday on 27 November 2026. The calendar is in Gulf ad seasons.
| Angle | Copy (ours) |
|---|---|
| The size | "The [name] dress in sizes [size] to [size], with a size chart in centimetres on the page. Doesn't fit? We exchange it free." |
| The occasion | "Your Eid dress is ready: [fabric] in [count] colours, delivered within [time] inside Saudi Arabia." |
| An honest offer | "[percent] off the [season] collection until [date]. The before and after price is on every piece." |
| Trust | "A Saudi store, shipping from [city], and you pay on delivery. See customer reviews on the page." |
