Abaya stores in Saudi Arabia: which platform they sell on, how they advertise, and at what price

In Saudi Arabia an abaya sells on its cut and fabric, not on a discount. We read 1,431 recent Arabic abaya ads targeting Saudi Arabia, from 293 advertiser pages, between 2026-10-24 and 2026-11-03. The clearest finding: Saudi abaya stores live on Salla more than any other category we studied, advertise with short copy, video and carousels, and leave the discount in second place.

Key takeaways

  • 60% of abaya ads in Saudi Arabia lead to a Salla store, against 20% for Salla across all Saudi ads.
  • A discount or an offer in only 22% (Saudi average 34%): the abaya sells on design, not on markdowns.
  • The median advertised price is SAR 250, and the upper quartile starts at SAR 499: a market with a clear premium tier.
  • The copy is short: a median of 30 words per ad against 45 for Saudi ads, and the picture does the talking.

Abayas in Saudi Arabia: half of the Gulf market

Of the study's 2,569 abaya ads across the Gulf, 1,431 targeted Saudi Arabia, close to half, followed by the UAE (629). Abayas are a small category by count next to general fashion (5,926 ads in Saudi Arabia), but they have the clearest identity in how they sell.

What sets the Saudi market apart from the rest of the Gulf in this category:

  • The platform: Salla leads by a margin no other category comes close to.
  • Cash on delivery: only 5%, against 10% for abaya ads across the Gulf: the Saudi buyer pays online at a store she trusts.
  • Instalments: 10%, above the Saudi average (4%): premium pieces get split payments.

Why Salla? Where abaya ads lead

60% of abaya ads in Saudi Arabia lead to a Salla store. For comparison, Salla takes 35% of Saudi perfume ads and 13% of general fashion ads. And of the 962 abaya ads leading to Salla across the Gulf, 856 are Saudi.

After Salla come Shopify (7%), WhatsApp without a store (5%) and Zid (3%). Outside Saudi Arabia the picture differs: Shopify takes 14% of Gulf abaya ads. The likely reason is that a Saudi abaya store is a small local business (a designer or a workshop) that needs a ready Arabic store with local payment and domestic shipping, which is what Salla offers. The button is "Shop now" on 60% of the ads and "Order now" on 28%, while "WhatsApp message" is on only 5%, against 23% in Saudi Arabia overall. The customer picks size and colour on the product page and needs no chat.

How abayas are advertised: video, carousels and a calm offer

69% of abaya ads are video (Saudi average 63%), and carousels make up 13% against 5% in Saudi Arabia overall: a new collection is shown piece by piece, and movement shows how the fabric falls.

The offers are calmer than in other categories: a discount in 22%, the lowest discount share of all the study's categories in Saudi Arabia, "limited time" in 15%, a gift in 7%, free delivery in 11%. Compare with general fashion in Saudi Arabia, where a discount appears in 50%. The message: a good abaya does not need a markdown every week, and constant discounts hurt a store that sells its own design.

Prices, and who advertises

Of 145 abaya ads that stated a price in riyals (most do not, and leave it to the product page): the lower quartile up to SAR 150, the median 250, the upper quartile from SAR 499. Both the median and the upper quartile sit above those of Saudi ads overall (SAR 199 and 370): embroidered and occasion abayas have a real premium market.

1,431 ads from 293 pages: a handful of ads per store, so the category is a market of many small stores, not one big brand.

An ad that has run for weeks in a category that does not rely on discounts means a design that sells itself. Open the first ten ads in this sort and note: the dominant colour, the cut (cloche, butterfly, embroidered, everyday), whether the video has a model or just the piece, and the price on the Salla page behind the ad. How to read running time.

Practical steps and copy templates for an abaya store

  1. Search "عباية" in the library with the Saudi filter and the Salla platform, sorted by longest running: these are your direct competitors.
  2. Film a short movement video for every piece, and gather the collection in a carousel ad.
  3. Write short: the name of the piece, the fabric, the sizes, the price. No paragraphs needed.
  4. Put instalments in the ads for pieces above the median, and keep the discount for one season.
  5. Prepare the Ramadan collection early: Ramadan starts around 8 February 2027 and its ads start in early January, then Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March 2027. The calendar is in Gulf ad seasons.
