Kids in the UAE: a small category in the biggest Gulf market
Kids and toys take 6% of all the Arabic ads that targeted the UAE in the study, near the bottom of the list, ahead of only makeup (5%) and abayas. But the UAE is the biggest Gulf market by count, so it holds 26% of the Gulf's kids ads, second after Saudi Arabia (28%) and ahead of Kuwait (21%).
The market is spread out: 608 pages for 2,414 ads, about four ads per advertiser, and no page owns the category. The UAE kids ad travels a little: 11% of it also runs in Kuwait, 11% in Bahrain, 10% in Qatar and 9% in Saudi Arabia. For the kids category across the Gulf read Kids and toys ads; for every category in the UAE, Trending in the UAE.

How kids stores in the UAE sell: the gift and urgency before the discount
- A gift in 21%, more than twice the UAE average (9%) and close to Gulf kids (25%): a toy with the set, a second piece free, or gift wrapping.
- Urgency ("limited time", "limited stock") in 24%, against 20% in the UAE overall.
- A discount or an offer in 38%: the same as the UAE average (40%). Kids is not a discount category but a gift category.
- Cash on delivery in 20%, above the UAE average (15%); free delivery in 11%; instalments in only 2% (UAE overall 4%).
And 78% of the ads are video, above the UAE average (71%): the child plays in front of the camera, and the toy moves.
Long copy: the mother reads before she buys
The median kids ad in the UAE runs 117 words, against 67 for all UAE ads and 104 for Gulf kids, with emojis on 90%. The ad explains the learning benefit, the right age, the material and safety, the sizes, then gives the offer and the price. The buyer here is a mother who compares and asks, and an ad that answers her questions before she asks them saves a chat.
If you write for this market, do not cut it short, but structure it: a first line about the child, not the product, then short paragraphs: the age, the benefit, safety, the offer.
Where the ads lead: "Shop now" before WhatsApp, against the UAE habit
This is the clearest difference with the UAE market: "Shop now" on 53% of kids ads and "WhatsApp message" on 22%, while across UAE ads "Shop now" is 39% and "WhatsApp message" 31%. Children's products come in many sizes, colours and ages, and a product page shows them better than a chat. "Order now" is on 7%.
Among the platforms we recognise: WhatsApp without a store 23% (UAE overall 33%), Shopify 7% (UAE overall 14%), YouCan and WooCommerce 1% each, Salla <1%. Every share is below the UAE average: many kids ads lead to the sites of large retailers without the fingerprint of a known platform. For the Saudi market, where Salla is stronger: Toy stores in Saudi Arabia.
Prices in dirhams
Of 166 ads that stated a price in dirhams (a small sample): the lower quartile up to AED 100, the median 179, the upper quartile from AED 325. Across the UAE market: 130, 299 and 600. The median is clearly below the market's: educational toys, clothes and sets within reach, with the big items (strollers, cots, bikes) in the upper quartile. For comparison, the median for Gulf kids as a whole is SAR 100.
The band between the quartiles is narrower than the UAE market's: the category lives in roughly one price band, and competition is on the benefit and the gift, not the price. For the UAE market in every category: Facebook ads in the UAE.
The kids ads that lasted in the UAE, and copy templates
Open this sort and try other words («ألعاب» toys, «تعليمية» educational, «مواليد» newborns, «ملابس أطفال» kids clothes), then note for every ad that lasted: the target age, the benefit it promises, the gift, and who appears in the video (the child, the mother, or the toy alone). Open the store page behind each ad to see the real price, the sizes and the payment method. How to read running time.
An honest note on the numbers: the "kids" group is built from words in the ad text, and the word «أطفال» appears in many ads that do not sell to children: 21% of the group's ads also carry fashion words, 19% carry home words, a "Donate now" button sits on 2% of them (charity campaigns that mention children) and "Download" on 2% (apps and games). Read the shares as a direction, not an exact figure; the live screen is the judge.
- Pick one age and one product and search for it in the library with the UAE filter, sorted by longest running.
- Put the gift in the first line: a fifth of your competitors do, and across the UAE only one in ten.
- Write the right age, safety and the material before the price: these are the mother's first questions.
- Film the child playing with or wearing the product, not the product alone.
- Plan the seasons: White Friday on 27 November 2026, UAE National Day on 2 December (start late November), Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March 2027 (Eid clothes and gifts), and back to school in late August. The calendar is in Gulf ad seasons.
